Day 1: Tell us all about how you got into crafting OR Craft something that is pink
And breath…day one already..I can do this. So what got me into crafting? Nice easy question to start us of. I was arty at school which was many many years ago but lacked confidence, determination and a lot of other things too so art got pushed to the side. I trained as a seamstress so always kept my hand into crafts though I didn’t see it that way at the time. After 10 years of sewing I changed career direction and all art and craft were dropped from my life. I tried drawing again when I was a newly married but it didn’t go down too well and to cut a awful story short I didn’t pick up a pencil again till I was divorced over 10 years ago. Slowly over the last 10 years, although I haven’t been able to draw, my true crafty self has emerged.
More recently one bored rainy afternoon last year I discovered Create and Craft on tv, my little eyes lit up. Crafts on the TV , where had this been hiding all my life. I was hooked again. I got myself a craft magazine the next day which had a subscription offer of several packs of promarkers …..well the rest is history. Once those promarkers hit the door mat I was colouring everything. It was like I was seeing colours for the very first time. I would colour at every opportunity I had. It snowballed from there. I saved and saved and bought a Bigshot and then slowly added dies to the collection. A few weeks ago I had a massive lounge sort out and move around as I realised I no longer had a lounge but a craft room with a sofa. To say I am hooked is an understatement.
In this challenge I am aiming to do all the wordy prompts. But when I can I will also do the crafty ones too. Today being one of them so I apologise now for starting off with such a long post, they wont all be this long I promise.
Pink. I haven’t got any birthdays coming up so I crafted a sign instead. Its for my craft room which isn’t a craft room. All will become clearer later in the challenge. KennyK have very kindly donated one of the prizes in the craft bundle and very kindly gave me ‘Color Me Janette’. She is perfect for my craft room sign and of course decked out in pink.
I used a new technique for colouring this digi in. I normally use promarkers but I have been playing with watercolour pencils and then go over the image with a wet fine paint brush. This time after colouring the image in with the pencils I went over the top with the blender pen from promarkers. I am still deciding if I like the finished effect but it is something a bit different.
A close up of the colouring. I used watercolour paper that is thin enough to go through the printer. I found that its better to do few thinner layers then trying to do one heavy layer. Also to work out where I want light colour and to hardly colour on the light bits.
Below you can see I have put the image onto various papers that I have inked the edges with Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet and purposely put at different angles because its representing my craft room and I ma never neat and tidy. You can also see the flowers on the right all ready to go. These are hand punched from left over bits of paper and then formed using a embossing tool and a mouse mat. It makes the flower more flower like instead of just flat.
Would love to know how you got started….link up with your story or show us your ‘pink’ crafts.
***In the “Name” box in the linkup below you have 100 characters, how about writing instead of just the name of your post, your blog, add something extra instead of just your actual name – it will make things more fun on this list.
