I love spellbinders and I especially love their new dies. One of their relatively new dies I am loving is Timeless Rectangle. To me it is all about being fancy. Bored of just sticking the dies onto a card though I tried a new technique.
What I Used.
- Spellbinders Nestabilities Die – Timeless Rectangle.
- Ranger Liquid Pearls
- Inspire Me A4 Card – Purples
- Wild Rose Studio Clear Stamp Set, Love Letters
- Tim Holtz Distress Ink
- Flower Die I used one similar to the 3D flower from Sizzix but a flat die like Marianne Design Creatables Die, Ribbon Flower 3 would also work well.
- Glues, scissors, guillotine and big shot.
First of I had to make the ‘card blank’ using the largest die from the Timeless Rectangles. To do this I took my card and ran it through the big shot to die cut the back. For the front piece I took a piece of card the same size as the die but with an inch extra on the side you want the fold. Fold the extra bit back and place the fold about 1 to 2 mm from the edge of the die. Bets to tape it in place as you don’t want it to move. Here is what it looks like after its been through the big shot.
The top photo is just after it came out of the die, you see it looks like I just missed the top of the die. This is what you want to create a hinge. The second is of it opened up ready for the back cut out to be stuck to the ‘extra flap bit’. I stuck mine on top of the flap so that the flap line was inside as I knew I would be adding a white inner card. You could also do it so the flap line is the back so that the front, and both inners are perfect.
Next I used the lilac card and next die down to die cut the next layer. Using the darker purple I die cut the next size down again to give a purple, lilac, purple affect. I couldn’t find a suitable sentiment stamp for the centre so I used the computer to create a Happy Birthday sentiment to fit the centre. I printed it on normal white card as my white card is thinner than the purple and lilac card and would have had trouble going through my printer. So that the white card didn’t stand out too much I lightly inked it with Tim Holtz ink and then stamped it too with the rose from the love letters stamp, giving a bit of a grungy mottled look.
After sticking all the layers together I used a spiral flower similar to 3D flower from Sizzix to create three flowers. But next time I think I will use a flatter flower like Ribbon flower 3 as 3D flowers do stick out a fair bit and wont go into envelopes.
Lastly I die cut using white card the second largest die cut to stick on the inside of my card so that I could write inside the card and added Ranger liquid Pearls to the flower centres and corners of the dies.
