I was just over at another blog leaving a comment. Nothing new in that, but the wow bit was when I hit ‘submit’ I was automatically directed to a Thank You Page. Now that’s a really neat idea but also very clever as you can add in anything you like. You could add in your email subscribe box or details of the social media sites your on. Sp apart being super doper nice its also a friendly way to build relationships with your readers.
What Should You Add to The Thank You Page ?
Your mailing list sign up – if they just left a comment they are hopefully liking you, they could just need that nudge to sign up to your mailing list. So it being there right in front of their noses will help.
Your best posts – you have about 2 seconds if that to shine. Dazzle them with some of your best posts.
A friendly message – they have already taken up their precious time by commenting so you don’t have to stand on ceremony. Say thank you as you really mean it and as if they are right there in front of you.
So how do you add a redirect to your first time comments?
- Well first take yourself over to your pages and go to Add New. Call it something simply and get creative. Put the page live and double check its not in your menus by accident.
- Install this plugin – Comment Redirect by Yoast – you can find it there or from the plugin page within wordpress where you add new plugins.
- Set the page. Once you have installed the plugin and activated it you’ll find it in Tools. Simply choose your new Thank You ( or whatever you have called it) page.
