Day 7: Tell us ten things that make you happy OR Craft something that has a food theme.
I have been wondering around with a notepad and pen for what seems like ages. 10 things that makes me happy….easy. Well it is till you start to write them down.
Crafting – my other half says my happy trigger word is glitter. He reckons that just saying glitter randomly to me makes me uncontrollably grin and my face lights up. I won’t even attempt to argue with him on this one. To be fair anything that is craft connected makes me go all warm and fuzzy inside to the point even my insides smile.
Sunny Days – One of the nicest things ever is to wake up and see blue cloudless sky through the bedroom window. Its a rare site but the last few days have been glorious. Not too hot, a touch of breeze and lots of blue sky’s. I have tried to enjoy every precious second of it.
My Bed – I have M.E so I do spend a fair bit of time hurting. You know that feeling you get when your about to come down with the flu, that achy everything hurts feeling? I get that a lot. I have to pace myself a lot too. M.E has been described as like having a handful of spoons given to you in the morning and every activity be it body or mind uses a spoon. All day you carry these spoons around trying not to drop them and working when to use a spoon and when you need to save them. Sometimes there isn’t enough spoons to get you through the day. I find if I rest on the sofa I am not really resting. If I rest on my bed I do rest. My bed is my sanctuary. Its the place I seem to hurt the least and I very much love climbing into it early in the evening.
Laughter – My kids laughing is the most infectious thing and the most loveliest sound. Its better when both are laughing though as otherwise I know if only one is laughing one will be shouting soonish.
Winter Nights – yes I know totally contradicts no2 but I love putting the house to bed, putting on the side lamps and pulling out a blanket to cosy up on the sofa. Its homely and snuggly.
Bonfire Smells – not smelly old rubbbish type ones. When people have been trimming the garden and, I think, its bramble bushes they are burning. Its smells like autumn to me.
Food – I am rather new to loving food and up till now had a bit of a love hate relationship with it. My body decided long ago it couldn’t tolerate fruit and most vegetables were a bit hit and miss. Over the last 8 years I have made a concentrated effort to change this. Dare I say it out loud but I am winning. My diet now mainly consists of fruit and veg. I mainly steer clear of meat as it just makes me too full up and lethargic.
Walking – I can do this which is good as there is a lot of things I can’t do any more . Its not strenuous if I go at my pace and its good for me. I get twitchy on days I havent been out for a walk.
My Job – I make, look after and ‘do’ websites. I’m self employed so that I can work the hours I want and more more importantly when I can. Take this weeks gorgeous weather, I have been able to work in the garden and in the evenings. The change to self employment was one of necessity with the M.E. Now two days are the same and no employer would understand good days and bad days. Were not rich and there are weeks when its all a financial struggle but the quality of life more than makes up for it.
Me – I don’t mean this is a conceited how wonderful am I sort of way. I mean in a mind set sort of way. I saw a motivational quote the other day that said ‘Happiness is an inside job’ which to me is so true. We all can tell tales of wrong doing and hard lives to varying degrees but its how you handle the hurdles that determines your happiness. You can choose to be grumpy and resentful or you can choose to learn, let go, get on with it and be happy. I choose to be happy, so I make myself happy.
